Kunstmuseum The Hague
Bring visitors of all ages closer to art, without their phones getting in the way. That’s the aim of the audio tour of the renewed Kunstmuseum The Hague. Based on extensive research among users, we designed and developed the audio tour app that guides you through the works in the museum.
A timeless design
One of the things that makes Kunstmuseum truly unique is the building it’s housed in. The museum, designed by famous Dutch architect H.P. Berlage, is a work of art in itself. He even designed a special brick for it. The iconic (4:1) proportions of the brick, and its derivatives, are visible throughout the entire structure. This clear philosophy formed the basis for the grid of the app designs, so that the app seamlessly integrates into the building during your visit.
We wanted to give the team at Kunstmuseum the possibility to change the look of the app for each exhibition. Just like they do in the actual museum. We did this by adding a custom colour for each exhibition.
The app uses the latest technology in order to be easy and intuitive to use. A great example is the way to start an audio clip. All you have to do is move your phone to your ear for it to start playing.
